Hello from Faraday: February is the mid-point of what has been a very busy school year.
Your child/children will be bringing their second report card home on
March 3, 2010. Please take the
time to review and discuss it with them. This lets them know that
you understand what the teacher has included in the report card and that
you take their education seriously. Student Led Conferences will be held on the afternoon and evening
of March 25, 2010. This
is an excellent opportunity for you to review and discuss your child’s
progress with their classroom teacher. If you have concerns
regarding your child’s report, please feel free to call your child’s
teacher to discuss these concerns before March 25th. February is “I Love to Read” month at Faraday School and our
theme this year will be Faraday Reading Olympics. Students
will be involved in many activities such as “Word of the Day”,
“Stop, Drop and Read”, “Caught You Reading”, and “Poem of the
Week”. As well, each classroom will adopt a country that will be
participating in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
During the closing ceremonies, each classroom will do a brief
presentation on their selected country. We have also declared February as “I Love Haiti” month at
Faraday School. Each classroom
will take part in assembling emergency relief kits for families in
Haiti. A letter was sent home with more information on how we can
assist families who are currently in peril due to this tragic earthquake. I would like to acknowledge our school patrols and adult crossing guards
for their work. The work very hard to ensure the students who attend
Faraday School have a safe journey to and from the school. Next time
you see them on post, feel free to tell them you appreciate what they are
doing. I have noted that car traffic is getting very congested in front of
Faraday on Parr Street as parents drop off or pick up their children.
Often cars will be parked illegally with their “four-way flashers” on
waiting for their child to be dismissed. This creates an
unnecessary and very unsafe traffic jam in front of the school.
This makes it very difficult for our patrols and adult crossing guard to
move children safely across the street at Parr Street and Mountain
Avenue. Please put the safety of all students ahead of your
convenience.
Mr. R. Cockrem Principal
