EARL GREY SCHOOL
NOVEMBER 2008
Dear
Parents/Guardians:
We have had a busy and productive month of October, and I am very pleased with
how things are going at the school! We have a wonderful group of students
and staff! Our first report card will be issued on November 25, with
Parent-Teacher interviews on the evening of November 26 and the afternoon of
November 27. We hope you will be able to attend.
We had our second Parent Council meeting recently and the following people have been elected: Kati Nagi - President; Marina Halligan - Vice President; Cathy Kaita - Treasurer, and Marcus LeNabat - Secretary. Lila Gushalak has agreed to be in charge of fundraising. We greatly appreciated the contributions of these people! Our next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on December 3, and we would love to have you come.
This year we have an Aboriginal Liaison worker, funded by the government, for approximately one hour per day. If you have any ideas of any services this person, Collette Wood, could provide, please let us know. In the next while we will be inviting Aboriginal parents to a meeting to discuss ways to get Aboriginal parents as involved as possible in the education of their children. Please feel free to call either myself or Ms Wood at 474-1441 to discuss this further.
You are all invited to attend our Remembrance Day service to be held on Monday, November 10 at 10:40 a.m. Students will be encouraged to contribute some money towards war veterans when we give them poppies before the ceremony. We will be speaking to the students about the importance of peace and about the sacrifices that soldiers have made in the past so that we can live in freedom.
In keeping with our school goal of Sustainable Development, we will be having a presentation from Wildlife Have and one from the Green Kids ("Palais - Oops") during this month, in addition to our assembly on November 7 at 1:10 p.m.
Happy Hallowe'en!

ROOM 12 NEWS - by Ms Radons
The students of Room 12 have been learning about the importance of rules and responsibilities at home, at school and in their community. They have identified that rules are meant to keep us safe and out of danger. The students have shown responsibility for their school and community by cleaning up the litter on the playground and cleaning themselves in the classroom on a daily basis. They are learning about patterns and noticing them all around us. We will be learning about how people, animals and plants get ready for the changing seasons. Thank you for your support with the home reading program; it is off to a great start!

Help Wanted!
Interested parents of Earl Grey School are needed to help maintain a community garden on the school grounds. We are excited to develop a school garden as a tool to build community spirit, beautify our grounds and to teach children about the environment around us.
If you are interested or just have a really green thumb we need your help. Please look for Kati Nagy or Marina Halligan at the school garden booth on the main floor during Parent/Teacher Interviews on Wednesday, November 26 and Thursday, November 17 for more information, and to sign up.
