[Our Proposal] [Science/Technology] [Electronic Portfolios] [Videoconferencing]
[Young Scientists' Days] [Innovation in Canadian Schools -Discussion Forum] [Earl Grey's Homepage]
Parents and staff were surveyed regarding the impact of our innovations in technology on the students of Earl Grey School. Innovations include the use of scientific probes and sensors in Grades 4-8, electronic portfolios and videoconferncing.
Results from parents were generally positive in nature. Many parents who responded to the survey were from primary grades who were not particularly aware of our innovations, but did know that we have a strong focus on technology in the school. Some responded that if there was anything more to de done, that they had confidence that we would figure it out. Others felt that the strong emphasis on technology came from an interest in the home. A small number were not interested in technology.
The staff reported that students consistently enjoy going to our computer labs and use the equipment available to them in their classrooms. Teachers said that the innovations in technology provide for yet greater diversification in teaching strategies. "The Learning Equation" in Math was cited as particularly important at the junior high level. Our computer-based resources program was viewed as being helpful to our special needs and resource students. Furthermore, teachers in early childhood reported that the technology program benefits younger students in their fine motor development. Teachers felt that the integration of technology into the many areas of our curriculum increased employability skills for our students and significantly helped in the development of literary, scientific, mathematical and technical skills. Finally, teachers felt that our innovations improved self-management skills for our students.
The results of our student surveys will be posted in the near future.
