Traditional Teachings and Ceremonies

Within the school and programs the Aboriginal Traditional Advisors are responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination and facilitation of all traditional events, activities, and ceremonies. Provide and guide Staff in traditionally appropriate curriculum development. Participate in all school planning and functions, activities, evaluations, meetings, presentations when required.

  • Planning and coordinating of Traditional Ceremonies such as Sweat Lodge, Pipe, Naming, Clan and Colors, Teaching Lodge – Seasonal Ceremonies (4 times a year)
     
  • Facilitation of Sharing Circles, Teaching Circles and Healing Circles when required.
     
  • Planning and coordination of Cultural Orientation for students and staff which consists of Medicine Gathering, Teachings and Ceremonies
     
  • Cultural development implementation and planning for staff
     
  • Curriculum development for culturally appropriateness
     
  • Monthly Pipe ceremonies
     
  • Monthly Sweat Lodge Ceremonies
     
  • Planning, coordination, proposal writing for Men’s Gathering
     
  • Planning, coordination, proposal writing for Women’s Gathering- Kamahmobeyot Ikwezanzsuk (Young Girl’s Sitting Together) program
     
  • Proposal writing for special programs and cultural teachings and gatherings for the school, staff and/or students/parents (sometimes done with Principal, and or Cultural committee members)
     
  • Facilitate teachings, and pipe ceremonies
     
  • Public Relations for school presentations
     
  • One on one counseling
     
  • Group counseling
     
  • Plan and coordinate Seasonal Feasts for School
     
  • Assist all staff in planning and coordination of school events
     
  • Assist students on their journey for cultural development, which consists of introducing to Elders, Spiritual Guides, Ceremonies, and teachings
     
  • Assist Elders, Spirit Guides, with ceremonies and gathering medicines, ceremonial supplies
     
  • Guest Speaker and Role Model planning and coordination for all classes
