Medical Internship Program

MIP BROCHURE

There is need for young aboriginal students to look seriously into the medical field for future career options. Often students are intimidated by the field itself and feel that they are not capable of becoming a member of the medical profession as it is seen as an unattainable goal.

The focus of the program is to have aboriginal high school students explore, through internships, at Pan Am Clinic various career options within the medical field. While maintaining a supported course of study at Children of the Earth that best sustains their post secondary aspirations.

In our learning community we believe that education is more than just classroom instruction. Students who go through our Medical Intern Program are offered outstanding preparatory work as well as fieldwork opportunities. Experience is a great teacher. Through the Pan Am Clinic internships, and a variety of mentorships unique to our community, students learn to develop the patience, knowledge, flexibility, and compassion to work effectively in the medical field and with all people. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism including communication, accountability, and respect in all of our interactions with each other and people outside of our community.
