Grade N-4 students worked with guest drummers, from Artists in the Schools. They explored the concept of community and celebrated the similarities of cultures through the power of the drum. Parents and special guests enhanced this inquiry project through their participation. Students demonstrated an understanding of the commonalities between cultures through study and performance of Taiko drumming, African drumming and Aboriginal drumming. Families attended a Cultural Extravaganza in March and students demonstrated their learning through project work; which included murals, artwork, weaving, clay, masks, writing, Power Point presentations, digital storytelling, brochures, dioramas, model villages, cities and natural environments in China, The Philippines, Cameroon and Japan. Children’s games, dances, drumming and songs from the various inquiry projects were also presented. Thank you to the students and families who contributed to the building of knowledge for our students, other families and for staff.
