Manitoba’s the place to be, Manitoba’s my home, Tell me of your history, Manitoba’s my home.
She was born here on the prairies in 1870. Born on the back of two rivers And the trading of two companies.
Out of this place called Rupertsland, Manitoba came to be. First Nations was her heritage And her father was Métis.
They sought him for his word and voice This learned man Riel, To stand up for their rights and lands, Their story to tell.
He had a dream for his girl Like every father’s plan For people from all walks of life To find a place to stand.
The railroad came and the buffalo went. Battles were fought over pemmican. She grew older and began to change Prairie no longer an open range
We may not have been born here, But this land is now our home. We have to know her story Because now it is our own.
