Intermediate Language Centre

 

The Intermediate Language Centre is for children in Grades 4-6:

 

  • Who live in The Winnipeg School Division
     

  • Who have a diagnosed severe communication disability with two or more difficulties in:

 

  • Understanding and following directions and/or discussions
     

  • Telling experiences and stories in sequence
     

  • Asking questions
     

  • Speaking clearly
     

  • Maintaining topics
     

  • Exhibiting grade level literacy skills
     

  • Using appropriate grammar
     

  • Integrating new information
     

  • Displaying adequate interpersonal and social/communication skills

 

The Intermediate Language Centre provides:

  • A low enrollment component with integration into regular classrooms
     

  • Daily direct small group support for academics
     

  • An Individual Educational Plan for each child with specific learning outcomes
     

  • Opportunities for students to build self-confidence as they practise ways to communicate
     

  • Extra intervention with speech and language therapy
     

  • A learning environment where student academic development is a priority
