Mr. Gary Sova

Biography:
This is my 26th year working for the Winnipeg School Division.  Presently, I am the behaviour support teacher for the South District of the Winnipeg School Division. In the past, I have been worked as a physical education teacher, crisis teacher, and a counselor.  My current job role includes: assessing referrals for behaviour, applying for teacher assistant support, placing severe acting out students into the various learning assistance centers (Churchill, River Heights, Rockwood, and Harrow) and the Grant Park M.Y.S. program, training teachers and teacher assistants in non-violent crisis intervention, facilitating gang awareness workshops for the Division, mediating student conflicts in the South District, assisting teachers with special education referrals, behaviour planning, individual education planning and low incidence funding for level 2 and 3 students.  As well, Susan Chodirker and I have trained thirteen grade 8 students as peer mediators at Churchill this year who have recently been mediating disputes at Churchill in the middle years and at some of the elementary schools in the area.
