Lunar eclipse on Wednesday night
http://us.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/10/26/lunar.eclipse.ap/index.html

The recent eruptions of Mount St. Helens in Washington have consisted of far more steam than ash, and therefore the moon should appear bright and coppery red on Wednesday night, NASA said.

 Solar Eclipse

March 29, 2006 Total Solar Eclipse over Africa and the Mediterranean Sea

Information for student research projects from Earth Observatory.

Image 13459   or  Image 17230 EO
This astronaut image captures the umbral shadow across southern Turkey, northern Cyprus, and the Mediterranean Sea. The terminator of the eclipse—the line between the light and dark parts of the Sun’s disk— is visible as it passes across central Turkey.

Image 13456
Two images.  At 10:40 UTC ... the shadow of the Moon traveled across Libya and the Mediterranean.

Image 13453
The pitch-black central area, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) across, is the region of totality, where the Moon was completely eclipsing the Sun.

GIF animation showing the sequence of the shadow across Africa.

Eclipse - In a different light  special information on the Sun Earth day of an eclipse.

Sun Earth Day main web page.  Visit this Website to register.

Image 17228
Like the beam of a flashlight in reverse, the Moon casts its shadow over the Earth when it moves in front of the Sun during a total solar eclipse. Within this shadow, which measures about 100 miles across, day becomes night for a few minutes as the Sun’s disk turns black surrounded by a glowing halo.  Study the 2 images from previous Solar Eclipse and the background information on the research topic.
