Instructions:  
Find information on topic "Art History of the Twentieth Century" for either:
a) a significant artist or 
b) a stylistic movement or period.
If you choose an artist, you should know the period(s) and style for the artist . 
If you choose a period, you should know some of the important artists that represent the works in the period. Many web sites refer to one or the other: artists or periods, but do not connect the two. Be sure to view the information on the Canadian Artists.  Follow the assignment outline given in class to complete the information required. If you need to use a search engine, go to the main page of Central and get to the Search Engine page

Look at the following Web Based Learning resources and use each section to look at your chosen topic / artist and get all the information. Each of the 6 sections will have additional resources. Know which art period / movement your artist choice represents. Make sure you double check all words for spelling and copying process.  

For an overview of "Modern Art", read Introduction to Modern Art  from the Department of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum, New York.  Include the Timeline from the Met to appreciate the development of Art History. Web Museum - located in Paris, it has a list of the Twentieth Century periods. There is an outline of all art periods under a theme index, an Artist Index and a glossary. Visit the Web Museum home page as it contains other interesting things, tours and exhibitions.

For those wish a direct link to 20th Century periods you can compare Chris Witcombe's reources with the others on this page.  He sections the page into General, Early 20th-Century Art and Later 20th-Century Art.  For the and 21st Century you will find less items. 1. Check out the WAG right here in Winnipeg and see what's on at their galleries. They have a Artists links page and other cultural organizations.
   The Manitoba Society of Artists has a web page and link to a list of its' members.
2. The National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa, is a new building with links to it's 'Collections' page and 'Exhibitions' page.
   For the real artist in you, log on the CyberMuse with a password and see the gallery paintings online - a unique virtual feature for you!
3. AGO Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto has an Information page, a Resources page with another page for Fine Arts Research - simple great stuff.
4. The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is located north of Toronto in Kleinberg, Ontario.
   Its' Canadian Art Page includes links to
   Canada's famous 'Group of Seven' and
   Contemporary First Nations Art and
   Inuit Art.
5. Do a search to find an artist in Canada. It is on the Canadian Heritage information network site Artists in Canada, compiled and maintained by the National Gallery of Canada Library.
6. Emily Carr is a special Canadian artist from Vancouver.
   One site, Emily Carr at Home, features special digital images.
