Back Movie Club
Cecil Rhodes School is proud to belong to Panasonic's Kid Witness News program.  We are one of 25 schools in Canada who receive equipment from Panasonic in order to create and edit videos at school.  Since we first began with Panasonic some 7 years ago, we have seen a great improvement in the equipment that we use in order to create and edit film.  Each year, a small group of students has the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops which deals with the art of film making.  Following the workshops, students decide upon an idea for a film, and begin the process of planning and storyboarding their film.  These films can take months to plan and shoot, before the editing even begins.  With a newly updated editing suite, students are now able to add great visual effects, include sound tracks, and produce top-quality films.

Over the last four years we have won many awards for the videos we have created. We have been to Toronto on four occations to accept our National awards. We typically enter the videos created in two video competitions: Freeze Frame, an International competition held here in Winnipeg; Panasonic Kids Witness News, a National competition held in Toronto.

The video club meets weekly during the planning stages of the film making, and then meets daily during the shooting of the films.  Films may take weeks to film, and weeks to edit.  We feel fortunate to have good digital palmcorders, as well as two iMac computers with iMovie software in order to edit and produce our films.
