Student Assessment

The goal of student assessment is to gather data which evaluates the important elements of education such as competencies or achievement in various subject areas. This data provides valuable information for the teacher, student and parent. Assessment techniques are based on a variety of sources and may include any of the following:

1.  Comprehensive Assessment Program (CAP) N-6Check
2.  skills checklist
3.  teacher observations
4.  work samples, projects
5.  informal tests
6.  criterion referenced tests
7.  norm referenced tests
8.  diagnostic tests

9.  interviews

This data is collected and forms the basis for the evaluation of our students.

Reports to Parents

ReportsThere are four reporting periods during the school year for Grades 1-6, two of which are written.  Kindergarten students receive reports twice a year-March and June.  In addition, all parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher at any time throughout the school year to discuss their child’s progress. Interviews are held twice yearly for parents of children in Nursery to Grade 6 usually in November and April.

Prior to student led conferences parents should study the report card and formulate questions to bring to the interview.  The purpose of the report and the conference is to keep parents informed about their child’s progress and plan strategies for improvement where necessary. Parents who are unable to attend a scheduled interview are requested to telephone the school to make alternate arrangements.
