School Procedures

Homework Policy - Primary

Children from Nursery to Grade 3 are not always assigned regular daily homework.  Work is sent home for children when they are absent from school or they require additional practice with certain subjects or skills.  We encourage students in N-3 to read daily or to be read to on a daily basis.

Homework Policy - Intermediate

Homework is assigned at the intermediate level using the following process:

1. Long term assignments which are to be completed over a period of time, so that students learn how to schedule their time and give some thought to their priorities.

2. Assignments of daily work which have not been completed during class time, or as preparation for the next day’s class.

3. Homework which has been given to children when they have been absent from school.

Inservices, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and Administration Days

Teachers are allowed ten days for professional development.  These days are used for administration, parent-teacher conferences and for teachers to attend Inservices.

There is some flexibility in the number of days spent for administration and professional development, but the total number of Inservice days cannot exceed 10 days in any given year.

Whenever an Inservice day is scheduled, parents will be notified at least two weeks prior to the day when classes are to be closed. A reminder notice is sent out the day before the Inservice. We try to let parents know about Inservice days as far in advance as possible, so that there is sufficient time to plan for care of children. Many parents use Inservice days to make dental or doctor’s appointments.
