The students of Room 119 watched Barbara Reid's video discribing how she created her
illustrations. As a class they also read and discussed some of her books focusing on her
illustrations. To begin their art project students met with our Art Consultant, Lidi K.
She had the students examine themselves in a mirror and note their personal features as
well as the placement of their features within the shape of their head. Students then
built their plasticine self portrait in a series of steps. First they drew themselves on
paper to get the proper perspective. They started off by creating their heads. As the
nose, eyes and mouth were added, students engaged with their teacher and Lidi in a
discussion of these features and what needed to be included, such as the whites of the
eyes, the cornea and pupils. Techniques were demonstrated in ways to create the hair.
Students were then left to their own creativity and imagination to finish off their self
protrait. Then they chose the colours of plasticine they would need for their background.
Students and parents alike were extremely proud of their finished product.
By clicking on each portrait you can read the student's reflection on their work. |
