In addition to providing enriched classroom programming, the teaching staff will focus on the following priorities for the 2007-2008 school year: Strengthen Literacy Through the Arts: sustaining the Arts initiatives that we began last year as we explore the new Arts Curriculum and integrating Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Dance into classroom programs Strengthen Math Skills and Strategies for all Students: sustaining our initiatives in the area of Early Years Numeracy instruction and continue to develop strategies to enhance core mathematics competencies in the Middle Years. Refine and Strengthen Instruction and Assessment Strategies for all Students: helping students of all ages develop the habits of involvement and responsibility for learning and moving them towards a deeper level of understanding and confidence; continue to implement assessment and evaluation strategies that will actively involve the students in their own learning so they and their parents can better understand their strengths, what their learning goals are and how they can improve. Promote Healthy Choices with regard to Nutrition, Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyles: implementing the Winnipeg School Division’s new Nutrition Policy as well as providing students with more Physical Education classes. Strengthen and Enhance Aboriginal Education: planning an Education for Sustainable Development initiative that will integrate Aboriginal perspectives into curricula, promoting socio-cultural understanding and examining the environmental, economic and political issues facing our own community and the Aboriginal communities in Manitoba. Strengthen Literacy with Information and Communication Technology (ICT): integrating the use of technology as part of the instructional and learning process and begin reporting student outcomes to parents; planning and developing effective strategies for advancing student literacy with ICT in a curricular context. |
