School priorities for the 2006-2007 school year:

 

Strengthen Literacy through the Arts for all Students

bullet

Students will learn “multi-literacy”  skills and strategies that will help them in expressing their understanding in many different forms.

bullet

Students will develop their artistic literacy skills of sensory awareness and creative expression in communicating their ideas.

bullet

Students will demonstrate their own artistic voices, and so become part of shaping their own learning.

bullet

Students will demonstrate a greater appreciation of cultural diversity in the local, and global community

bullet

Students will have a greater appreciation of how the past and present act as a catalyst for creating change for the future.

bullet

Students will have a greater appreciation of the aboriginal culture.

bullet

Teachers will gain valuable training that they will apply in planning future learning experiences that will integrate the arts.

bullet      Parents will understand the value of the arts in the education of their children

 

Strengthen Math Skills and Strategies for all Students

bullet

Early Years will demonstrate greater understanding of numeracy by the end of the school year.

bullet

Early Years students will progress along the stages on the  Numeracy continuum  by the end of the school year.

bullet

Students in Gr. 4-6 will demonstrate greater conceptual understanding of place value, multiplication and Division, Fractions and         decimals and algebraic reasoning by the end of the school year

bullet

Teachers will refine and strengthen their Instructional and Assessment Strategies in numeracy

bullet

Teachers of Kdg and Grades 1-3 will increase their numeracy instruction strategies by the end of the school year.

bullet

Teachers in Grades 4-6 will have an increased awareness of the early years numeracy instructional strategies and continuum of numeracy skills.

bullet

Parents will have a better understanding of their child’s development and progress along the numeracy continuum of skills.

bullet

Parents will develop a better understanding of the instruction of numeracy and place used in classrooms.

bullet

Parents will have a better understanding of how they can support their children’s learning at home.

 

Refine and Strengthen Instruction and Assessment Strategies for all Students

bullet

Teachers will have a common understanding of the assessment and evaluation practice currently in use in the school.

bullet

Teachers will have a greater understanding of the research and best practice in assessment and evaluation.

bullet

Teachers will develop tools to assist them in assessment, evaluation and reporting to parents.

bullet

Students will  participate in on-going self assessment and evaluation.   

bullet

Parents will have a greater understanding of teachers’ assessment and evaluation practice.

bullet

Teachers will understand the expectations at each grade level.

bullet

Teachers will have a common understanding of the grades on the report card.
