Our major production for 2006 was FINDING JOE. It’s been shown at  Cinematheque, Cinema 3, & The Gimili Film Fest. It also played at and won an award at the 2006 Aboriginal Film Fest. See the trailer, watch the movie, a CBC newspot, a CBC radio interview, and footage from the Aboriginal Film Fest.

Argyle Student presents video at Teen Touch Fall luncheon
Congratulations to Cierra Giesbrecht for speaking at the Teen Touch Fall luncheon which was at the Winnipeg Convention Centre and attended by the Minister of Education of Manitoba. Cierra presented her video entitled Bullying:Effects and Solutions which which can be viewed . Her interviews on City TV and CBC. Watch the video (but first download iTunes ). The video has been distributed all through out Manitoba to a variety of schools and student support programs.

Of Mice & Men,

The Big Bite

In the Video Production Program you will create your own movies as well as work on group projects. Argyle Sox Productions created a modern adaptation of John Steinbeck’s “OF MICE AND MEN”  in 2008 as their major project for the year. The film is a modernized version of this famous novel, set in downtown Winnipeg, and with an Aboriginal backdrop.  Take a look at the Of Mice and Men pages to get an inside view at the development of this exciting production. The movie premiered at the Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Fest in Nov. 2008. It then played to rave reviews at the Freeze Frame International Film Festival in Winnipeg in November of 2009. On May 21st, 2009 it will be playing at Winnipeg’s IMAX Theatre. The Manitoba Minister of Education, the Honourable Peter Bjornson, will be in attendance for one of the screenings during the day for inner-city schools. And the Honourable Pat Martin, MP Winnipeg Centre, will be in attendance for the evening show when “Of Mice and Men” will be shown as part of a fundraiser for the Main Street Project.

One of the group projects in 2004-2005 year, a feature length comedy called "The Big Bite" was shown in four theaters in Winnipeg. It was shown on March 17 & 18 2006 at the Freeze Frame Film Festival. Freeze Frame also took the movie on the road to rural Manitoba and a study unit was created for schools. Previously it was screened at the Park Theatre as well as at the Aboriginal Film Festival. Click to see the trailer for the Big Bite. THE VISIONARY , our other major production of 2007, was written by Spencer Fernando, who won 1st prize at the pitch contest of the 2006 Aboriginal Film Festival, where it was recently screened on opening night of the 2007 festival. The project was edited by Darrion Anonychuk.

”Z” is For Zombie
The final cut of Z IS FOR ZOMBIE, a major production of 2007, recently played at The Park Theatre with THE VISIONARY (see below).

Argyle Sox Productions acquired the rights to a shoot a film version Of Mice and Men.  The film has been scripted, shot and edited and shown at film festivals. It is a modernized version of this famous novel.  It is set in downtown Winnipeg and features an inter racial cast.  Take a look at the these pages to get an inside look at the development of this exciting production. It was recently shown at the IMAX theatre where the Minister of Education introduced it.
