Task:

You know that Sydney could care less about reading how bad smoking is for her, so you have to come up with a creative way to get her attention. Your task is to make a creative poster that you can put up in the hallway at school that explains:

bulletthe risks involved in smoking (statistics)
bulletthe diseases you can get from smoking and
bullethow you can quit smoking or get help to quit

You will be divided into a group of three to complete this task. Each of you will be responsible for finding specific information on the Internet depending on your role. The roles are:

  1. The Statistician
    A statistician collects information about a topic and records it in numbers and percentages. This information is call statistics or stats. Your job would be to research the stats on smoking. For example, how many people die from smoking in Canada each year?

  2. The Doctor
    The doctor will be responsible for researching the diseases and health problems that are caused by smoking. For example, lung cancer.

  3. The Counselor
    The counselor's job is to understand why kids your age smoke. They will be responsible for knowing how to help someone quit smoking or encouraging them not to start.
