The Library:
1997 was a time of change in the Sargent Park Library. Now, this busy place is now staffed with two part-time teacher librarians (Mrs. Einarson N-4, and Mrs. Dawson 5-9), a full-time clerk, a part-time parent volunteer, and 132 volunteer Student Library Assistants from Grades 5-9 working every day before or after school, plus 56 Grade 4's who work every other day.

Our library has an open and flexible schedule through which the teacher/librarians, teachers and students from Nursery to Grade 9 work co-operatively on Resource-Based units that utilize the library's print, non-print and computer resources. Sixteen additional computers have been added to our original three, and this is an immense help in our research projects. Our goal is to teach independent learning skills to students in order that they may function efficiently and successfully in the future. We are presently implementing a Birthday Book Club in order to supplement our paperback collection and also to take the opportunity to recognize Sargent Park students on their birthdays. You can e-mail Mrs. Dawson or Mrs. Einarson.

 Elementary Computer Lab:
The Elementary Computer Lab at Sargent Park is one of the newest and most up- to-date labs in Winnipeg #1 School Division. The lab contains 30 student work stations and both a color and a laser printer. Since 2004, Windows XP is the operating on all machines and there is direct access to the Internet on all machines via a router. Students use a variety of programs to enhance and enrich the curriculum in their classrooms such as World Book Multimedia CD-Rom, Publisher, Paint, Kid Works 2.0, Student Writing Center, Creative Writer, Cross Country Canada, Logo. As well students use single station CD's such as Math Blaster and Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? Most classes visit the lab 2 to 3 times a cycle. The lab is open at 8:00 a.m. for student use. The lab facilitator is K. Routhier.

 Junior High Computer 'Lab 10':
“A history of Information Technology’s adaptation to the new Software Environment in serving student needs.”
The IT Lab started in the Fall of 1992 with 26 386/25 MHz workstations. In the Spring of 1995, World Book Information Finder CD-ROM, and Middle Search CD-ROM were installed. In the summer of 1997, a new Pentium lab was installed and the 'old' 386's were moved to the library to set up a Word Processing and Online resource centre. In 1998, 'The Learning Equation' was installed. With network saving of work in specific folders and drives, all Junior High students can really get to their program files from many different computers around Sargent Park! In 2004, extra computers were added from the Pentium 2 generation used in the Elementary Lab. In the summer of 2005, the older Dell computers were moved from the Library to Room 10 and the lab continues to serve the Junior High students with 35 computers.
The lab is open at noon and after school until 4:30 for student assignments, research, keyboarding practice time, and Internet. Lunch time is fun time with music, games, Email on the WSD mail server, assignment work, Surfing the Net, animation and Power Point work.

 Applied Technology Department:
Sargent Park School has had an Industrial Arts and Home Economics department since the early 1950's. The school originally had two wood shops and two metal working shops. In the mid 1960's one wood shop was converted to the current electronics shop and one of the metal working shops was converted to the current Drafting Graphics class. In 1996, the metal shop was removed and is currently an Elementary class room. In 1997 the wood shop stopped  being used. Today there are four sections: Foods and Nutrition, Sewing and Fabrics, Drafting, Electronics.

All four sections offer courses based on the current curriculum and each section puts its own emphasize on staying as current as possible with the new technologies. The drafting graphics program now has three computers all of which are networked with the rest of the school and have their own Internet connection. The Electronics shop has twenty computers. The teachers in all the areas recognize the need to emphasize the relevance of modern technology and how it will impact on the students future.

The applied technology department is comprised of Mrs. Dolynchuk (retired in December 2005) in the foods and nutrition department, Mr. Johnston in drafting graphics, Mrs. Skakum in  sewing and fabrics and Ms. Haines in electronics.

Sargent Park has students from several neighbouring schools and serves nearly 500 students over the school year. The Sargent Park students account for another 300 students.
