-30 years ago Inuit's dreamed of a new territory

-April 1, 1999 a new territory came true

-Nunavut is located on the Eastern Arctic of Canada

-After many discussions and negotiations between the Inuit and other northern leaders a new government was made

-Nunavut has 2 million square kilometers of land

-In Nunavut, there are minerals like gold, silver, copper, and diamonds

- Nunavut is planning to build 3 new parks

-Nunavut means "our land. "

-Nunavut was made by splitting the Northwest Territories into two parts

-In Nunavut, there are 28 communities

-Baffin Island in Nunavut is the largest island in Canada

-Nunavut faces challenges like the weather

-Nunavut is the coldest territory in Canada

-The capital of Nunavut is Iqaluit

-Iqaluit means "place of fish."

-Iqaluit is on Baffin Island

-Nunavut`s Northernmost settlement is Alert

-Alert is on the Northeast tip of Ellesmere Island

-The snow in Nunavut is dry

-The people of Nunavut build Inukshus to guide them

-People that live in Nunavut, can vote and run for office

-People of the government elect a speaker, a premier, and cabinet ministers

-85% of the people are Inuit

-13 of 14 assistant deputy ministers in the government are Inuit

-Half of the whole government staff are Inuit

-56% of the population in Nunavut are under 25

-People in Nunavut are famous for their arts and crafts

-Hunting, trapping, and fishing are recreational activities in Nunavut

-Inuit carvings are found in soapstone, whalebone, and ivory

-Many people in Nunavut need more education

-Apprentices are being trained in 11 communities

-In Arctic College they study computer science, business management, and public administration

-Inuit sell caribou and muskox meat across Canada

-Inuktitut is the language of the Inuit people

-English and French are available in government services

-Inuit use all the parts of a seal without leaving anything behind

-Inuits make igloos

-It takes an hour to make an igloo

-The people of Nunavut use old science to survive

-People use dog sleds or a snowmobile to go places

-There are 3 cultures in Nunavut

-The people of Nunavut use satellites to watch television

-Many areas in Nunavut have no roads

-There is an island called Baffin Island in Nunavut

-The capital of Nunvut is Iqaluit

-There is an imaginary line called the Arctic Circle

-Nunvut means '' Our Land''

-Nunavut has an area larger than Newfoundland, P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec combined

-The map of Canada was redrawn in peace and partnership

-Nunavut is an achievment for all of Canada to celebrate

-Nunavut will bring an unique viewpoint in Canada’s future

People of Nunvut

-85% of 25,000 people in Nunavut are Inuit

-Inuit people speak the same language:Inuktitut

-4,500 people live in Nunvut

-The favourite sport is hockey

-One out of every 6 children finish high school

-People in Nunavut can get more than 30 t.v. channels by satellite

- Travel to Nunvut is possible by plane, boat or snowmobile

-The goverment of Nunavut will help Canadians know the challenge of daily life in Nunvut

-60 percent of the population is under 25

-The young people will be providing the leadership in the future

-When Inuit carvers look at a block of soapstone they see a sculpture hidden inside the soapstone

-Nunavut is the least populated area of Canada

-People build their houses on stilts so they woudn't sink into the permafrost

Food on Nunavut

-Hunting in Nunavut is their way of life for the Inuit

-They hunt for seals,mukox,caribou and other animals

-Store bought food is expensive

-Hunting and fishing are important

Weather in Nunavut

-It is like a desert of ice in the winter in Nunavut

-Winter in Nunavut lasts nine months from September to May

-The earth in Nunavut is so cold the earth is permanently frozen

-In July and August the sun comes out and 200 species of flowers bloom

-In January the average temperature in the north of Nunavut it is -35 degrees Celsius
