Aboriginal Art
Home Woodlands Plains Inuit Westcoast Carl Fontaine Art Workshop

Hear our welcome!
We  explored the art of four Canadian aboriginal groups by visiting websites of different aboriginal artists. Our project group of Grade 5 and 6 students then created art to show our appreciation of these art forms. We had a visit from a guest art teacher Mrs. Briggs from Seven Oaks Middle School to teach us color mixing and painting techniques. She showed us work from Norval Morriseau. Grade 6 have been researching the First Nations and some of their written research work is included.  Our art teacher Mr. McLean also taught us about Woodlands art and helped us with drawings. Art from his classes of Grade 6, 7, 8, and 9 are shown.    Carl Fontaine, an aboriginal artist visited our school for a week in January and spent 45 minutes each day with the Grade 5 and 6 classes. See the pictures we took of the week. At the end we made a mural. We are going on a field trip to the Wah-sa Gallery in January to see Canadian Woodlands Art and pictures of this trip are shown.  Samples of artwork from Grade 5 to 9 are being framed and will be displayed in the hallways of our school.  Come and visit and take a look!

Special thank you to Mr. McKay, a member of our community  for allowing us to use his artwork on our website.
