John

In the fall a bear was looking for a house to sleep in for the winter. He saw a fish. The bear asked the fish what was the best house. The fish said the water was the best house.

The bear tried the water. He said it was too cold. Water is not a home for bears.

The bear asked bird. Bird said a tree is a best home. The bear tried it. Bear could not climb the tree because he was too big.

Bear asked the lizard for help. Lizard said rocks are the best home. The bear tried it. When he went to sleep it was too cold.

Next he asked mole. Mole said the best home is in the ground. The bear tried digging but his claws did not dig.

The bear asked the hen. Hen said a barn is the best home. The bear tried it. He said it was too big and empty.

He went to a man. He asked him what would be the best home. He said a house is the best home. The bear went in the house. It had one thing missing. The missing thing was it did not have meat. He has to live near a lot of meat.

He started looking again. This time he saw a mouse. The mouse said a hole in the wall is the best. The bear tried it. It did not work because he was too big for a small hole.

He found a turtle. The bear asked the turtle. The turtle said a shell is the best home.  Bear tried it. He did not fit and it was too heavy.

Bear was going to give up!  Just then an old bear walked by. The bear asked the old bear. The old bear said a cave is the best. The bear tried it. It was just right for the bear. Now he has his own house to call home!
