Winnipeg Now
and Then
Cars
screeching is everywhere you go,
Horses
neighing was what we used to hear,
Pollution
everywhere that doesn’t go away,
People saying
Hi! almost no pollution.
Old building
made of stone,
Wood was made
of everything,
Colourful
murals just for art,
Everything was
plain and natural.
Sleeping in on
weekends is perfectly normal,
Sunday morning
was time for church,
In every
little town,
Now things are
more important.
Things have
changed over the centuries,
But it happens
everywhere,
If history
wasn’t history,
Where would we
be right now?

Winterpeg
Winter again
Another harsh
winter.
Snow Falling,
Howling winds,
Minus 27, the
high for today.
Birds
scavenging for food,
Accidents
everywhere.
Is it worth
it?
Dogs Barking,
Kids playing,
People yelling
in support of the home team.
Happy people
shopping at Polo Park,
People
spending time with families at the holidays.
Is it worth
it, I ask?
YES!

Cold, grey at once neoteric and ancient
Cracked cement, gargantuan amount of snow
Streets of neon; erotic and deficient
Homelessness, poverty, all thorns in what was a rose
All sadly sometimes pushed aside
What can we do? Only God knows
Church signs encouraging to follow God
The diversity in the cultures, one of the good things
of the place
And the promotion of peace, yet many are unkind, how
odd
Yet the beauty of the kind extrude
And the beauty of some of the city inspire
Giving us the optimism that can still elude
To make people hope of something better

What’s It
Like in Winnipeg
The harsh long
winters
The snow
glowing outside
Wind howls and
twists around
Children’s
laughter all around
Sliding
through the glowing snow
As seasons
change spring blooms
Wind becomes a
whistle
Calm, quiet
Chirping of
birds outside on tall strong trees
People outside
alive, strong, happy
Walking by
raging rivers
Having great
times with family
Red-hot
sizzling walls jump at you
Once summer is
born
Bright strong
mighty glow of the sun
Strikes
you
While walking
by the furious traffic
As the leaves
shatter on the ground
Autumn falls
Children leap
onto the shattered leaves
As walking
home
You walk upon
shattered leaves
Left behind a
sound of crunching
There you are
at the scarlet door
The harsh long
winter begins,
Once again

The Colors
of Winnipeg
Winnipeg you
dance with colors and light,
Your dress is
nothing but brighter then the sun and the sky,
The flowers
which you wear lighten up your hair,
You are
nothing but a cultural design,
You bring joy
and wonder to my mind.

Winnipeg is as white as snow.
In the summer, it's hot.
The grass turns green and grows.
Winnipeg is cold when it is winter.
The cold wind and frost blows off the river.
Winnipeg is as white as snow.

My City Winnipeg
Winnipeg a place where it is cold.
Winnipeg a city where you can grow old.
The city with four seasons - spring, summer, winter and
fall.
It is a good reason to like them all.
This is my city which I call home.
No matter what season it is it’s where I will roam.
|
Known for its
winters,
But has hot
sunny days.
Known for its
freedom
Because
everyone has something to say.
Everywhere
there are people,
Different
cultures and kinds.
Every single
one,
With a
creative mind.

Winnipeg
In the spring,
it’s still chilly and cold.
In the summer,
people swim and run.
In the fall,
people rake and walk.
In winter,
kids toboggan and have fun.
Mornings are
bright and cold.
Nights are
dark and silent.
Afternoons are
in rush hour.
At the end of
the day people are quite spent.

Winnipeg
Day breaks on our city.
Her eyes open
As we go about our daily lives
Many faces can be seen
From different cultures
And backgrounds
Some feel lost or afraid
But there are still friendly faces in the crowds
She is proud
But sometimes she feels unwanted
When garbage is strewn across her
She wants to feel proud
But is not
She remembers when there was no such thing as garbage
Long ago
She was proud then
But her people have changed
And still some try to help
Make her beautiful
So she is proud
