Special Notes for 'advanced' Notepad use

1. Text Entry
Notepad is LIKE a Word Processor WITHOUT a mouse operation - requires the 'old' key commands as outlined
- Typing replaces spaces selection
- ENTER Key returns to a new line
- HOME and END keys - move to beginning and end of the line
- Page Up and Page Down work like a normal document
- SHIFT + 4 ARROW KEYS - UP and DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT - these will highlight text and will  move up / down a line, left / right a space or a letter
- SHIFT + CTRL + ARROWS KEYS LEFT AND RIGHT - Highlights and moves left and right a space or letter
- SHIFT + END - highlights a complete line to the right of the insertion point
- SHIFT + HOME - highlights a complete line to the left of the insertion point
- CTRL + ARROWS LEFT & RIGHT - moves left / right a word or space
- CTRL + HOME - brings insertion point to HOME place of notepad
- CTRL + END - brings insertion point to END place of notepad

Notepad is NOT LIKE a Word processor
- repeat function is delayed less than 1/10 of a second on back space and delete keys - WARNING do not hold down!!!
- no style or format features like bold face, underline, margins, tabs, indents.
- no "F" function keys (F1 to F12)
- no spelling checker, so, type all names correctly, and proof read notes made, especially proper names of people, places and objects.

2. Editing Notes
- Highlight a selection - (Shift + arrows, or shift +ctrl + arrows, or Shift + End key), THEN you can
a) cut and past, or copy and paste within a document
b) delete larger text material - safer than using the backspace or delete key!
- Start from the left margin for a new "paragraph" if you want point form notes (Press 'Enter' for each new line).
- Let the text flow to the next lines, then decide where the insertion point is positioned for the ENTER key to give a new line. Work with the backspace to take out a ENTER if the line position is not correct. Indenting a paragraphs Left margin is very difficult, so just let it flow to the next line as this paragraph demonstrates. Adjust indents with the space bar after all Notepad text is typed in. Avoid using the space bar to adjust line spacing, as the screen does not print a true image size for the spaces near the right margin.

3. Saving to Disc and print.
Method 1 - Print from a Notepad file
- Print from it by clicking on the Print Button of its' Window, (not the Article Window print button).
- File and Exit, In the dialog box 'Notepad Warning', click on the Save button.
- This will open the directory for the "A" drive. The 8+3 file name needs to have the ".doc" extension changed to ".txt". Then save as .TXT file. Then, repeat "File and Exit".
Method 1 is best if you plan to work on the file AGAIN in Notepad.

Method 2 - Print from a Word Processing file
- Highlight and Edit / Copy the desired text. Minimize Information Finder.
- Start up another application, such as Works, Word Processor. Create a new file. Do an "Edit / Paste". Complete a "File Save As".
- Restore Information Finder. "File &Exit", click on the Discard button.
- Restore the Word Processing and continue to process the document. Highlight the text and change the font to a "True Type Font". Make other changes to heading sizes, margins, line spacing, indents. Publish and print it. "Close", "Save changes / YES", "File & Exit".
Method 2 is best if you plan to work on the COMPLETED Notepad file in a Word Processor and print from it.

4. "Open an existing file" in Notepad
- this works best from a file saved using Method 1, but any '.txt' file can be loaded
- click on the Notepad Button to open the Notepad Window.
- can click on the LOAD button, or click on File / Open; either way will locate the A Drive automatically. This only happens if the File / Preferences have a "User Path and a "Bookmark Path" set as "A:/" before using Notepad.
