Fall 2004:

Teachers met in early fall to divide up the tasks to create the bags.

Multicultural books were purchased and additional multicultural tales were found in books or on the internet.

January 2005:

Grade 7 students created concept maps for each teaching

bullet

Seven Teachings posters were ordered; bags purchased

May 2005:

bullet

½ day to create the iron on transfers on the bags and complete the laminating of items to  go into each bag

bullet

Grade one students created beading decorations using the colors of unity

bullet

Grade 1 students created animal drawings

bullet

Animal figures were found to add to bags

bullet

A launch of the project was held where all Grade 1 and Grade 7 students involved in the project benefited from hearing ‘words of wisdom’ and an honour Song from Rob Apetagon.  The contents of the bags were displayed to the students and the implementation of the projects was discussed.  Doreen Bowers and her PowWow club from Shaughnessy Park School then performed some traditional Aboriginal dances

June 2005:

1/2 day to finish the bags and prepare them in sets so that the Grade 7 students will have the opportunity to practice presenting them.

 Final  implementation of the projects with the Grade 1 and 7 took place mid June

Future plans:

bullet

A buddy project between Grade 1 and Grade 7 will take place every year

bullet

Bags will be kept in the school library and made available to all teachers to integrate into the aboriginal curriculum
