The population of Spain is 40 million. The major religion that they have is Roman Catholic. The currency that they use is the euro as of January 1, 2002.    Most of the people in Spain communicate by speaking versions or dialects of the languages Castilian and  Spanish.

The bodies of water that border the country are The Mediterranean Sea and The Atlantic Ocean.

 Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula.400 north and 50 west are the coordinates. It is on the continent of Europe. The capital city, where the government is located, is Madrid,   and some other major cities in the country are Barcelona, Toledo, and Valencia. The country is in the time zone of GMT- 1.  The important rivers in the country are the Ebro, The Tagus, The Duero, The Guadiana, and The Guadalquivir.

 

 

 

 

 

 Most of the houses are made of stone or concrete.  People in the country live in farming houses.   The homes that they live in depend on the weather where they live. In the hot south the homes are built from thick stone to stay cool.  In the south in the town of Gaudix the weather is so hot that the people live in cave homes. Where it is cool in the north, homes are mad of wood or brick.   The kinds of food that they have for breakfast are bread or cookie and milk, for midday are green salad, meat, fruit, and for dinner they have ‘la merienda’ which is a light meal, and ‘bocadilla’ which is a type of sandwich.

The kinds of clothes that they wear are cotton, leather, wool, and linen, silk.   In every day life people wear casual clothing. On special occasions they wear colourful dresses.   The main jobs of the people that live there are in the automotive industry and mining. The products that they manufacture are rugs, carpets, wire, knives, and swords, and the resources that they have are gold, silver, coal, copper, iron and steel. The products that they export are clothing and leather.  One kind of shop that they have is ceramic shops. The different kinds of transportation that they have are cars, camels, buses, subways and motorcycles.

 

The schools that children go to are private schools where they have to wear uniforms. The children in Spain go to daycare at the age of 6.   School begins at 9:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the evening. The subjects that they have are Math, Geography, History, Science, Spanish, English, French, German and Italian.   Almost all of the children and adults who go to school can read.

 

 

 

Two famous buildings in Spain are The Plaza de Espana in Seville which is a huge circular plaza built in 1929, and La Giralda, a large tower standing 92 meters tall, which is part of a cathedral called Plaza Virgin de los Reyes. Two other famous buildings are the Alhambra, a walled town with 27 towers built by the Moors in  the1200’s, and the Castillo de Coca which was built in 1453

Some special holidays are Navidad or Christmas, Nochebuena or Christmas Eve, and The Running of the Bulls. On a special occasion called Dia de los Reyes Magos families eat  ‘roscon de reyes’ which is a round cake with a little figure inside.  Each child hopes he or she will be the lucky one to find the figure in their piece of cake.

A specific type of dance that they have is folk dance. The traditional types of music that they have are guitar and opera. A famous entertainer is Monsterrat Caballe who is a famous opera singer.
