Did We Like It?
Excerpts from evaluation paragraphs Ø The research project we did with the grade fours was interesting. It was a different way to teach and learn from a project. It wasn’t that bad since I got some time to get to know how my partner cooperates in school work. Ø It worked well and we helped out each other. It was a good way for me and her to get to know each other better. Ø At first the process was okay. I was okay with the slim jim and sentences and dividing into groups and jobs. However I hated the fact that the typing people and puzzle people got together in the end to see if the text and the puzzle matched. This should have been done before the typing people and puzzle people went on the computers, because if the text or the puzzle didn’t match then we would have to do more work that could have been avoided in the end. Ø I found it hard looking for the photographers of the pictures in the three books on the internet. Mrs. Dawson helped me find most of them. Ø I learned that we should have explained the project to our tutees more, they didn’t understand a lot, I think. Ø After we were done the research we had to choose between puzzle, pictures or typing. The other people already chose puzzle and pictures so we had to choose word processing Ø The hard part was fitting in the words for the puzzle and making it correct. I had to extend the puzzle length and height so that it became easier and better to fit more of the words. Ø When we started the research we did pretty well, there was some problems finding information but it all worked out in the end. Ø Sometimes I was getting annoyed with my partner because he would never want to do any work. He always said that this project was boring and it was a waste of time. That was a reason why it took us a while to get the notes done. I learned that working with a partner doesn’t always end up being so good. Ø The research project we did with the grade fours was interesting because my buddy would not work sometimes and I admit I helped in that, too. I learned a lot of stuff about my partner by seeing what he is really like in real life and I learned a lot about Russia. All in all it was a good project to work on and I look forward to working with him again. Ø It was a different way to teach and learn from a project. It wasn’t that bad since I got some time to get to know how my partner cooperates in school work. Ø My partner wasn’t very interested in picking pictures because she soon got bored at the idea of it. It was even harder to find the photographers in the beginning pages of the book due to the fact that the font was very small and all in a bunch. . The easiest part was looking and picking the pictures from the book since it wasn’t that hard to find interesting pictures. The hardest part was remembering the procedure to scanning and saving the pictures in the computer. The other hardest part was looking for the person who took the pictures that we picked. Ø I learned how to communicate with a student that had a different understanding than I did. It was hard to get used to since they had the freedom to say what was on their minds and that was a factor in this project that was a big obstacle to get over. Some parts were harder than others but we were able to accomplish what we needed to do. I liked this project since it let me understand other peoples’ point of views and how they react to different tasks that are given to them. Ø We learned a lot of things that they do like, special celebrations, languages that they spoke, different kinds of clothing that they wore and much more. Ø Some of the difficulties that I had with my partner was getting organized and getting him to pay attention, but after a couple of classes he started to get his work done and spent his class time well. Ø The research project we did with the grade 4 class was a huge success. Ø The hard part was putting the words in the crossword pattern the first time we put it in the wrong shape, the second time a couple of words were together. These few mistakes set us back a day but managed to finish. Working together we both learned something Ø I would say that we did a good job since we finished the given assignments in time and used class time wisely. We got to know each other more since we’ve spent a lot of time doing this project. Through this project I learned how to use the program hot potatoes and make the word search puzzle. This project really helped us work on our communication skills better. Ø My partner wasn’t really doing anything so I had to do most of the work and it wasn’t really fun for me because I did most of the work. I think its hard work with my tutee because I did a lot of work. But I had a bit of fun because I get to miss classes to do my project. Ø I think that this project was a really good idea because I got to know stuff about my partner. We didn’t really have any trouble doing this except for finding some information in the book and put the notes into a sentence. Overall the project was a great success. Ø I thought that this project was a good idea because my partner and I got closer as friends. We communicated and got along very well. Ø Throughout the course my partner cooperated most of the time, but occasionally he doesn’t work or get involved in the assignment. But if I encourage him to he’ll eventually work. I really enjoyed this project and it was a lot of fun. Ø It worked well and we helped out each other. It was a good way for me and her to get to know each other better. I hope that my tutee enjoyed and learned something about this project. In overall I had a lot of fun working and doing the project with my tutee. Excerpts from Grade 4 Evaluations
Ø My buddy knew how to do the work and we did lots of work whenever we came. My buddy never went off and left me on my own.
Ø I liked working on the project because it was very fun. Russia is one of the top hockey and soccer player countries Ø Working with my partner was fun and it was a lot of help Ø I thought that this project was fun sometimes. My buddy and I didn’t get along sometimes Ø I enjoyed that I got to work with a Grade Nine student. It was easier because I did not have to do everything myself Ø I liked my Grade nine buddy because it was fun to be with him. Ø I think it was fun and I enjoyed working with my Grade Nine buddy I think I would give this project a low score because my buddy was never with me, she was always with her other buddy Ø I think the project is good and hard, Ø I think I did very well, I was able to find a lot of information Ø I also thought the project was fun and I didn’t like it when it took a long time Ø I think it was very good because the buddies helped the little buddies Ø I learned how to work as a team and listen to each other Ø I learned that in group work you need teamwork and that you should have fun most of the time Ø My buddy never talked to her friends and fooled around and she always knew what to do Ø I learned how to make a crossword puzzle on the computer and I learned how to organize a good and successful project Ø I think it is an excellent way to learn more about different countries Ø I think my partner was the best partner I ever had Ø I think that this project was sort of good. Sometimes it got a little boring because when you had to find a whole bunch of things on the computer and in the book Ø My buddy likes tot talk to her friends and so do I, but we were not allowed to talk Ø The project was a great plan because our buddies were cooperating with us Ø I enjoyed working with my buddy because we worked really hard to finish our project Ø My buddy cooperated – shared equally Ø
