Can you find famous Canadian who had a special place in the history of Riding Mountain National Park and has a cabin 11 km in the middle of the Park.

8. 100 Great Canadian Events in History
The One Hundred Great Events in Canadian History offers a great timeline from 500 to the present. An "historical event" is something that affects many people of a country or the world in a very important way and takes place over a specific  time period.

Search The Globe and Mail online newspaper Search on your important person or event.
Use 'Edit - Find in page' to see if the search key word is located here.
Then, link to these special Globe and Mail pages.
Century of the Millennium - a year long daily feature of historic front pages in honour of the past Century. Find out if your historical person made a news story on the front page that century.
The Millennium 100 - find the four Canadian women that made the list "Women of the millennium", and the two Canadians that made the "The Chosen 100" for the 1900's.

Web Based Learning at Parks Canada

First, go to the main page of Parks Canada. Look at the National Programs and the National Historic Sites. You can search the Parks Canada website for anything you need.

Next, go to the SchoolNet Projects. The Images of Parks Canada gives many new views of the parks. They have two ways to view the information for Commemorating Canada's History - one shows the main page, the other one lists the items in sentences in a welcome page.

Check these four web based learning for great links:
1. The Main Menu - contains the origins of names for the parks as well as the alphabetical list of Parks and links to each one.
2. The Related Links - super hot sites for heritage, travel and tourism, park systems, natural heritage links and cultural heritage links.
3. The Virtual Tour - explore Canada virtually!
4. From the World Heritage page , go to the special 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Canada. Start with the map and link to each one. Do you know which Sargent Park teachers have visited any of these sites?

Canadian Council For History, Social Studies, and the Social Sciences

On January 11, 2000, the 185th anniversary of Sir John A. MacDonald birth, this new web site CCHSS was launched. This special site features a monthly theme on Canada. The first one was on Sir John A. MacDonald and includes resources and a chat room.

The web site has the following sections: A Mari...; Resources and Links for monthly puzzles and a Did You Know, and Web Site References on Canada; Canada Chats where you can express you thoughts on a topic or suggest one; and a Market Place.

Profiling Canada is Stats Canada grassroots website which outlines a 2000 Statistics Canada Web Page Contest. Look at last year's winners, including one Grade 7 student from Grant Park High School. Submission deadline is April 7, 2000 to Statistics Canada.
