   Summary of application

In one sentence, provide the idea or theme of your project.
Senior 1 students will be making monochromatic self-portraits.

Provide an outline of the main steps of the project, including a timeline and your plan to maintain the online resource.
Photographs are taken of all students. The images are adjusted for lightness and intensity. The image is printed with a 1cm x1cm grid overlay. Students create a grid 5cm x 5cm on a sheet of large paper. Students transfer the primary contour from the photograph to their paper. Students identify the separate areas of value on their photos by drawing a line around them. These shapes are transferred to their paper as secondary contour lines. Students select a colour for their painting. Tints and shades of this single colour are mixed by the students so that they correlate with the differences in values seen on the photograph. Students develop a rubric to critique their finished work. Students paint and display their finished artwork. Selected students will work with the computer teacher to input thumbnails and finished product onto our school web page using the digital camera.

In which stages of the project will students be involved? (Planning, Design, Implementation, Evaluation)
Implementation, Evaluation

Describe: a) the objectives for student learning you have for this project; b) the curriculum outcomes this project supports.
a) Students develop an understanding of basic colour theory and colour mixing, and apply these skills in the painting of a composition. Students become aware of the concept of value, and see the correlation in value between black and white images and those in colour. Students become aware of the negative space within their compositions b) Art Curriculum - (above objectives) Language Arts Curriculum - Students will evaluate information, set aside personal bias to evaluate the relevance and importance of information collected (images). This will be done as students develop the rubric to self-access their work.

Describe: a) the three most interesting aspects of your project; b) how you will promote these aspects to seek the involvement/collaboration of others. (Applicable only to Category B and C project proposals.)
The three most interesting aspects: 1. Exploring self. 2. Create a strong resemblance (based on digital camera images). 3. Students enjoy working on their own images and each product is unique.

Which information and communications technologies do you expect students to use in this project? (E-mail, HTML, graphics, audio, video, video conferencing, digital camera, scanner, or others (please specify))
