We decided to do our Heritage project on Totem Poles because we realized that not many people knew about them. They were a huge part of the Canadian Northwest Indians culture. Totem Poles were used to record special events that occurred in their lives.

There are six different types of totem poles. There were:

bulletheraldic portals
bulletwelcoming poles
bulletshame poles
bulletfuneral poles
bullethouse pillars
bulletand the most important - memorial poles

In our model, we have different types of totem poles displayed in a small village. It is important that we remember and record our past, just as the Northwest Indians recorded their lives in the form of the totem poles.
