The Changing of the RCMP

Senior 1

My project was on the RCMP. On my project, it explains about
the history on how it all began and was formed and also shows
about the Musical Ride. It took 2 months to work on this project.
My project also includes how the RCMP had something related to
the CPR and the changing of their uniforms.
History
It all started in 1873 when the government needed a force to
police vast areas. Hudson's Bay owned all the governing of the
country, but they refused to police the native land so the
government decided to form a new force. They were then granted a
name of NWMP, a few years later, they then were granted the name
RNWMP, about 20 years later, the mounted police then decided to
keep the name short to RCMP. Not only do the RCMP police, the
also have the right to enforce provincial laws. Now the RCMP have
many rights as to dealing with drugs, murders and many others.
Changing of Uniforms
When the RCMP was granted the name of North West Mounted
Police, they had a certain way of dressing. It was with a red
ceremonial jacket with black boots, white gloves and a brown hat.
Compared to those times, our uniforms are now just green jackets
and brown pants. They no longer wear the scarlet red jacket
unless it was for a special occasion such as the musical ride.
Musical Ride
The Musical Ride was a ceremony to see celebrate the skills
that many riders had from the RCMP. Everyone tried to show off
their skills wearing the ceremonial uniform. Riders would ride
their horses trying to look their best and represent the RCMP
reputation the best they can. They no longer wear the uniforms
regularly but its a symbol to represent the HISTORY that was
formed during the past decades.
CPR
The CPR was involved with the RCMP because there was a strike
with the CPR workers not getting paid enough to support their
families. They made an order for the RCMP to guard those who
chose to continue to work.
