Everyday Life

Life in the early years in Manitoba was very different. All of our modern conveniences have replaced  the hard work of the early settlers and Aboriginal people. At Lower Fort Garry, we saw many things that were used daily in the old days that we had never heard of, like commode chairs. Life at the Fort depended on the hard work of the working people, who even had to get up in the middle of the night to add wood to the fires to prevent from freezing during those long, cold, winter nights.
