What We Learned from the Backpack Project

About Backpacks
-Always wear a backpack on both shoulders.

-Never wear a backpack on one shoulder.

-Backpacks can injure you.

-If you wear a backpack properly it can improve your posture by strengthening your back muscles.

-Heavy backpacks are a problem around the world.

-A backpack should not weigh more than 15% of your body weight and if you are a younger child not more than 10%.

- If you have too much weight cradle some things in your arms.

-If your backpack is heavy you should squat with your back straight and lift.

-Parents should check backpacks for things that are not needed.

-Backpacks should have padded straps.

-Wear runners not high heels when carrying a backpack.

- Do not wear a backpack if you have back problems or if you are overweight.

-Teenage girls are more at risk of back problems from backpacks.

In Math
-We learned to estimate the weight of backpacks in kilograms.

-We learned how to weigh backpacks on scales.

-We learned how to record information on a chart.

-We learned how to transfer the chart information onto a graph.

-We learned how to interpret the graph.

-We learned how to make questions about the graph.

-We learned how to use a calculator.

In Language Arts
-We learned how to spell the Math terms.

-We learned how to put information on a chart.

-We learned how to write questions.

-We learned how to write answers for the questions.

-We learned how to read Internet articles about backpacks.

-We learned how to highlight important information.

-We read the articles silently

-We read the articles out loud.

In Technology
-
We learned how to use the digital camera.

-We learned how to make a grid using Mircosoft 4.5.

-We made graphs using Mircosoft Works 4.5.

-We learned how to use Hot Potatoes to make a quiz.

-We learned how to put things on the Internet.
