Why Rabbits Turn Brown In Summer

One day long ago when rabbits were purple, all the rabbits were getting eaten because they were so bright and could be easily seen in the woods. So one day Bugs Bunny, the chief of all the rabbits, decided to do something about it. Bugs decided to go see the old wise tortoise. The next day as soon as the sun rose Bugs set off on his journey. Bugs climbed over 4 mountains crossed 4 lakes and while he was crossing his 4th valley he met an old fox. The fox noted that Bugs was panting so he challenged him to a race. Fox said that if Bugs beat him, Fox would carry Bugs the rest of the way to Tortoise’s hut, but if Fox beats Bugs, Fox would get to eat him! When they started the race Fox bolted to the finish line, meanwhile Bugs was only halfway. Just then Fox yelled, “Now I get to eat you!” Bugs started to run, while he was running Fox bit most of Bug’s tail off. That’s why rabbits have always had short tails. After about 4 minutes Fox fell behind because he was so old. Bugs travelled for 4 more days until he finally saw Tortoise’s hut. Bugs hopped inside. He saw Tortoise sitting on his big chair. Bugs walked right up to Tortoise and asked him, “How can we become more camouflaged?” Tortoise just sat there, he didn’t even move. So this time Bugs yelled at Tortoise but Tortoise still did not move. Bugs continued to yell until he was screaming at Tortoise. Bugs was really mad that he came all this way for nothing so he just left. When he was outside he saw the old fox sitting beside a big old elm tree. Bugs once again started to run away from the old fox. As he was running he lost his footing down a hill and fell into a puddle of mud. Bugs jumped up and looked at himself, he was all brown. Just then he noticed the old fox coming down the hill, quickly Bugs jumped into a pile of dead leaves.When Fox got down the hill he walked right by Bugs, in fact the old fox almost stepped on him. When Fox was gone Bugs jumped up from the pile of leaves and ran the whole way back to his village. When he was back he told every rabbit in the village to go jump into a pile of mud. They did as they were told and soon all the rabbits in the village were brown. Ever since that day rabbits were brown during the summer.
