How The Deer Got Its Antlers

By: Evan

Many springs ago when Earth was still young, Deer was walking in the forest. He heard someone talking. He saw some boys walking along. One of them said, “We need at least one deer to prove that we are men.” Deer stepped on a branch, it snapped, and all the boys stared at him. Deer started running. He felt four arrows fly by him. There were a few people chasing him. He was cornered. He was about to be shot, when some one yelled, “The Mic Mac are attacking!” The boys all went off to fight, and the deer slipped away and ran off into the woods.

The next morning when deer woke up, he started chewing on some grass. Later he was walking towards Bear’s cave. Bear said, “Be careful, some hunters are looking for deer. I would suggest being cautious.” Deer went deep into the  woods and used his advice. He came across a teepee. He went inside and saw an old woman sitting by fire. Suddenly she turned into a hunter and shot the deer with an arrow.

The next day, deer went to beaver and asked him to pull out the arrow. Beaver said that he would pull out the arrow if deer would get him a pail of berries.

Beaver pulled out the arrow and deer went off. He picked out some berries for beaver. Suddenly he saw the hunters. He was running away when he saw a tree. He crashed into it and he got branches in his head. He brought beaver his berries and this is how deer got its antlers.
