How The Hippo Got Fat

By Liam

One day Hippo, the Hippopotamus wasn’t eating at all. He was quite slim. The next day Hippo’s friend Bear asked Hippo if he wanted to go hunting with him. Hippo happily said yes. The next morning they were off in search of food for themselves. A few hours passed and they had no luck finding food. So Bear told Hippo to stay here and wait while he went and got food for them to eat. Four hours passed and there was no sign of Bear anywhere. So Hippo went to go look for Bear. Hippo shouted, “Bear! Bear! Where are you?” Then Hippo ran and ran till he found Bear upside down on a tree. “Bear! Are you O.K.?” shouted Hippo. For some reason Bear’s lips closed like a zipper. Then a little green person came and said “If you want to save you friend, you must beat me at a challenge so great that you have to…”The little green man stopped and said, “Just forget I said that.” embarrassed. But you still must beat me at the greatest challenge of all time!” Then Hippo said, “What is the challenge?” The little green man chuckled. “You have to eat more food then me, do you accept?” “I accept your challenge.” said Hippo nervously. “O.k. then, let’s begin.” said the little green man. Then out of nowhere this table appears with a white tablecloth on it and food like you would never imagine! There were four plates of buffalo meat, four plates of seal blubber, and four plates of deer meat. “On 3 we begin 1…2…3!” They began by putting their faces in the food and eating rapidly. Each time the table emptied, more food appeared. They ate and ate in till four days passed. When the little green man stopped eating, he was round like a balloon. Hippo was still eating! “O.K, O.K! You win Hippo.” The little green man said in a sad way. Hippo stopped eating when he heard that. Hippo was the fattest animal in the world! Then Bear fell slowly to the ground with a thud. Hippo said, “Are you O.K. Bear? “Bear was startled that his friend had gotten so fat! “I’m O.K.” he said. “Thanks for eating so much to gain my freedom.” Bear said happily. “No problem.” Hippo said. Then suddenly a bag of food appeared. “I thought you would want some food for the walk back home.” The little green man said when he appeared beside the food. “Yes we would!” said Bear. So the little green man disappeared and Bear ran toward the food, picked it up. Hippo and Bear walked happily back to camp.
