Throughout our study of Canada and
our “Canadascape” theme the students are involved in a number of
activities in order to learn more about and appreciate many aspects of
their country. As the students work through this theme using the
Internet, they are developing the following skills: reading and writing,
organizing information, locating resources, analyzing the appropriateness
of materials, small and large group discussion, independent and team
production, storage and retrieval of data and publishing information.

Together, with the
students of 208,
we visited the heritage
classroom at
Ecole LaVerendrye
on May 28.
The students worked in a
classroom "from the past" and enjoyed the music, dress and work that
children participated in during the school times of the 1930s and 1940s
in Canada.
Our
next field trip will be on June 9th and we will be exploring Oak Hammock
Marsh. Permission slips will be sent home today.

Our project to learn about the significance of the
horse to Canadian culture and civilization is almost complete. During this
integrated Social Studies/English Language Arts project, students have been employing research and map
skills, chart reading and construction ability, as well as broadening
their cultural knowledge.

Information
about one of our latest art projects!
Everyone from our class was
delighted to present a reader’s theatre adaptation of Betsy Who Cried
Wolf. All of the students worked very enthusiastically and
diligently to present scheduled performances to various classrooms and
guests.

We celebrated our learning
about the Gray Wolf
across Canada during the gallery walk on May 8. The children created
wonderful sketches with the help of resident artist Ella Kochenash.
The students are beginning
to add their work to our webpage. Take a look!
