SUMMARY:  Teacher's guide is provided and available online. Curriculum correlated documents also available online. Closed-captioned. Advertising portrays alcohol consumption as fun, relaxing, romantic, exciting and adventurous. However, alcohol is the most abused drug in the world, and one that is often abused by teens with tragic consequences. This program provides facts on how alcohol affects the brain and body, with vivid animations explaining how drinking impairs motor skills and judgment. This program encourages viewers to ask hard questions about the risks and benefits of drinking, highlighting some tragic personal stories with teen interviews and explanations from experts. SUMMARY:  Follow the story of Luke, whose diary entries give students a glimpse into the real world of a young smoker. Teens learn there are consequences of an addiction to cigarettes, including its effect on health, family, and friends, as well as an inability to quit!  Audience:  IJS.

SUMMARY:  Life-threatening consequences of recreational drug use and drug addiction are explored in this program. The program dispels the myth that recreational drug use is benign, and illustrates the devastating long-term effects of usage, including the trap of addiction, the consequences of overdose, and the deadly link to HIV/AIDS. Program features two teens that prefer the "high" life, and use drugs to achieve it. SUMMARY:  Inspired by the hit documentary Through a Blue Lens, Flipping the World is an astonishingly honest look at the world of youth and drug addiction, told by those who have been there.  Audience:  IJSA.  AV # VR4008

SUMMARY:  Four young narrators work together to educate viewers about the real dangers of using the commonly abused hallucinogens LSD, psilocybin/psilocyn mushrooms and mescalin/peyote. Also discussed is phencyclidine (PCP) an anesthetic/hallucinogen/stimulant drug that can lead to psychosis. Letters to a street child : A True story.  [S.l.]: Kineticvideo.com, c1999. 1 videocassette (ca. 25 min.) + 1 teacher/facilitator guide.
SUMMARY:  Caution: program depicts use of tobacco, inhalants, drugs, alcohol and coarse language. A woman who spent her early teen years as a street kid offers her own story as a runaway. The filmmaker uses the letters her father wrote to her while she was on the streets at age 13-14, to honour the nightmare that her family also survived.  Audience:  JSA.  AV # VR3582

SUMMARY:  Teacher's guide is provided and available online. Curriculum correlated documents also available online. Closed-captioned. It's referred to as weed, hemp, cannabis or pot, but regardless of what you call it, marijuana is arguably the most widely used illegal drug today. But what does smoking pot do to your mind and body? Program explores the physical consequences of abuse as well as the controversy surrounding its medicinal uses. Amazing animations give viewers an in-depth look at the short- and long-term impact that marijuana has on the brain. SUMMARY:  Provides viewers with information on what "crystal meth" is, its dangers, and why it is a dead-end street.  Kids who have been in the depths of meth addiction tell about the transition from casual use to addiction and onward, either to death or to recovery.  Interviews with a clinical expert give psychological explanations to the young addicts' stories.  Computer-generated animation explains in detail what happens to the body and mind as a result of methamphetamine use. SUMMARY:  Video explores the impact on the lives of three individuals who have been affected by alcohol. Students at Adolescent Parent Centre have produced this program to educate young people about the dangers of drinking while pregnant.  Audience:  IJSA.  AV # VHS0002394

SUMMARY:  Informs viewers about the tremendous damage that Ecstasy/MDMA, Methamphetamine, GHB, Rohypnol and Ketamine do to user's lives.  Contains an in-depth look at the frightening trend of "date rape" drug use and provides advice to viewers on protecting themselves.  Program details the social effects, biological functions and short and long term effects of each of these substances, and concludes with the tragic story of a college freshman who has spent three years in a coma due to someone "slipping" GHB to her without her knowledge.  Audience:  SA.  AV # VHS4054; DVD0071

SUMMARY:  A group of teenage drug users are "flipped" into different scenarios. Convicted of drug trafficking, Stephen is sent to a treatment facility. Kriss, who believes driving under the influence is an acceptable risk, is "paralyzed" in a car wreck. Carissa stays at a hostel for homeless teens, then "overdoses and dies". Crystal, the "ringer" in the group, has a real-life story: her brother Caleb did die of a drug overdose. SUMMARY: four young adults narrate Program on three of the most harmful drugs. Medical experts underscore the frightening facts about the damage these drugs cause to the body. Wrecked : High school anti-impaired driving kit.  [Winnipeg]: Manitoba Moose ; Manitoba Public Insurance, 2002. 1 videocassette (15 min.).
SUMMARY:  Viewers are educated about the dangers of drinking and driving and encouraged in responsible decision-making when making choices about impaired driving. Still and live action film footage, together with interviews and narration, reveal the terrible loss of families and individuals whose lives have been irrevocably changed by impaired driving. Statistical data, physiological effects of alcohol and legal penalties for impaired driving are also noted.
