Science Classification of Animals

(Originally from the Inner City Technology Goals Document – June 1997)

After students have completed a brainstorming activity on animals and their characteristics, they sort the animals using a word processor.

Details:
During several class periods, spend 5-10 minutes brainstorming animals and making lists. Brainstorm animal classifications and give characteristics of each classification. List the classifications.

Demonstrate for the students how to use cut and paste using the Edit dialog box. Click the mouse at the beginning of the word and drag over to highlight it. Go to Edit and click; click on Cut. Use the mouse to indicate where the word is to be pasted. Click on Edit again, then on Paste. The word will reappear in the new location. The students will use this procedure to place the names of the animals within their appropriate classifications.
