Students are asked to add to a template of a bat showing its nocturnal nature and feeding habits. The bat.bmp file is placed on the server in the "S:\2student" directory. For N-1 students, an adult should open KidWorks 2, Story Illustrator, File, Sharing and Clean-Up, then select the "S:\2Student directory and choose the bat.bmp file. Click on OK. Grade 2 students can follow the directions to access the file in KidWorks 2 or Paint/Paintbrush.

Students in Grades 1 and 2 can also add their names independently using the shift key for the first letter of their name. Bats as mammals, the "at" word family, and researching the unique characteristics of bats are all possible further explorations. Shapes could be added to the template as another extension to allow students to learn to select, copy, paste and move objects in the drawing software. If you wish to download the image of the bat outline, click on this link BAT.BMP.
