Details:
Create a recipe for a pot of delicious, hot soup. An excellent
activity for grade two's when studying pioneers or grade four's
when studying world communities or all grade levels when studying
special occasions. Food experience can be integrated into almost
all units.
1. Ask each
student to bring in a food product.
2. Measure and record each product's weight.
i.e. one cup of carrots one cup of celery etc.
3. Place all ingredients into a large pot.
4. Fill the pot with enough water to cover all
the ingredients.
5. Ensure that the amount of water being placed
in the pot is measured.
6. Add measure and record seasonings. i.e. salt,
pepper, etc.
7. Cook the soup.
8. While the soup is cooking type up a recipe
for the soup.
9. Once the soup is cooked measure and record
one cup of each of the ingredients.
10. Compare this to the weight of the pre-cooked product.
11. Use Graph1.bmp to graph the results.

Read a version of the folktale
"Stone Soup" eg. Marcia Brown's Stone Soup.
