Hugh John Macdonald Ski Trip 2002
All Hugh John Macdonald students are invited to apply to participate in a ski trip to Holiday Mountain (about 2 hours from Winnipeg). Arrangements have been made to provide the students with an opportunity to share in this valuable learning experience beyond the classroom. They will receive an introduction to a lifetime activity in a positive learning environment with high safety standards. Students will be under the supervision of qualified ski instructors and Hugh John staff. For the safety of all participants, students selected for the ski trip must be co-operative and responsible.
Skiing is a sport with physical demands and inherent risks which are beyond the control of Holiday Mountain and the Winnipeg # l School Division. Falls, collisions and other incidents may occur and cause injury. Skiers must assume the risks and dangers.
Activity Date: Friday, March 1, 2002
Location: Holiday Mountain (204-242-2172)
Meet at school: 6:45 am (School Departure Time: 7:00 am)
Departure from Ski Hill: 3:30 pm (Arrive Back at School: approximately 5:30 pm)

(Ski equipment package) $30.00(Snowboard package) $40.00
In preparation for this ski event, the participating students will be required to attend an "Introduction to Skiing" lesson at school. They will view a "Learn to Ski" video, learn some basics about ski equipment and safety on the slopes and receive further information about the activity.
Students should bring a lunch, snacks and/or money to buy lunch at the ski resort. Warm clothing is very important. Ski suits or sweats under a nylon shell, a toque, scarf and gloves are essential. Ski goggles, or sunglasses are suggested for eye protection from the sun and wind. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!
Upon arrival at the ski resort, the students will be fitted for equipment and directed to the skill assessment area. Once their ability level has been determined, they will be given colour-coded lift tickets, assigned to an instructor, and taught the fundamentals of skiing. They will then be able to ski only those hills suited to their ability. Upgrading to the more advanced hills is possible only after further assessment. Supervising staff will be on the hills and will be encouraging and reinforcing safe skiing techniques with students.
