GOALS OF GLADSTONE SCHOOL
Mission Statement :
To promote the intellectual , social and emotional development of pupils.
To develop a feeling of self worth in both students and staff, so that
each experience feelings of acceptance both in the school and classroom.
This implies an acceptance of each others strengths and limitations so
that each can feel successful and each can offer and accept help whenever
needed.
To develop social awareness and problem solving skills so that students
can become responsible for their own behaviour and responsive to each others
needs. This implies a respect for and a tolerance of others and their property;
being able to make and maintain friendships ; and manage conflicts positively
and independently.
Develop and maintain a pleasant, relaxed and positive environment where
the natural curiosity, enthusiasm and creativity of each child is encouraged
and as much success as possible is experienced by each child.
To develop communication skills so that students can share their knowledge
and experiences both orally and in written form and to develop those skills
related to listening with respect and attention.
To encourage participation in school activities to develop literacy
and math skills. This implies making literacy and math useful and relevant
to the students outside of school.
To develop skills of using resources available to find out whatever
information is needed and to encourage a sense of independence.
To encourage physical fitness and a healthful life style. Establish
instructional objectives within the framework of Education Manitoba Curriculum
Guides and relate these to individual and group needs.
Continue to assess student performance and utilize procedures so that
students receive feedback on their individual performance. Monitoring of
pupil progress is intended to meet pupil needs and provide feedback that
facilitates student accomplishment of goals.
