Integrated Special Education Program
Gladstone School provides two types of Special
Education Programs, an integrated program and a low enrolment Primary
Language Centre Program.
In the integrated program the students are
part of the regular classroom while an Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.)
is implemented throughout the school day. The Special Education Resource
Teacher acts as case manager for each special education student. The job
description of the case manager includes:
- work with the school resource
team (includes C.G.C.) and the classroom teacher to best meet the needs
of the student;
- develop and update an I.E.P. for each student;
- make curriculum adaptations, search for materials;
- work with classroom teachers to implement
the I.E.P. within the context of the classroom;
- provide direct instruction to students requiring
individualized instruction;
- provide academic assessment and a diagnostic
and prescriptive program;
- train, schedule, monitor, and provide ongoing
support and feedback for paraprofessionals connected with the program;
- explore and facilitate transition from an
elementary to a junior high setting;
- ongoing coordination of all team members.
