Organizational Information

Timetable

All students at Collège Churchill will undertake at least 75% of their academic program in the French language.  The timetable consists of a six-day cycle, each day having 5 instructional periods.  Each student will receive two copies of his/her timetable on the first day of school. We suggest that parents post a copy of this timetable in a convenient, prominent location at home.

Unlike elementary school, students “travel” to each different class. In grade 7, we attempt to minimize class changes during the day by scheduling the students with 2 or 3 main teachers.

School Hours

8:50 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.

1:10 p.m. - 3:20 p.m.

Lunch Hour: 12:10 p.m. - 1:10 p.m.

There are “warning bells” 5 minutes prior to the beginning of classes i.e. at 8:45 a.m. and at 1:05 p.m.. All students are expected to be in their classes on time. Students arriving late must report to and sign-in at the office.

Attendance

A significant indicator of a student’s academic success is her/his attendance. Regular attendance and punctuality is needed and expected. Notes from parents are required in the case of absence or requests for early dismissal. These notes are to be given to the office. If a student is to be absent for a prolonged period of time due to special circumstances, the office should be advised as soon as possible.

Lates:.... should be avoided altogether. If a student is unavoidably late, he/she should report directly to the office to sign in and receive a “late slip” to gain admittance to class. Recurring tardiness will be dealt with by the principal.

Call Back

Because of the great distances some of our students have to travel, Collège Churchill uses a call-back system for all of its grade 7 and 8 students i.e parents of students who are absent are contacted. We recognize that it may be inconvenient at times for parents to be called at work, but your children’s safety is paramount. If your son/daughter will be absent or late, a phone call to our secretary is appreciated and will thus avoid a “call back”.

Student Behaviour

Students are expected to behave appropriately, that is in a manner which enhances learning.  Parents will be advised and consulted in the event of recurring difficulties. All students at Collège Churchill will be given a copy of the Churchill Code of Conduct as well as a copy of the Winnipeg School Division Code of Behaviour in the first week of classes.

Accidents/Illness in School

Students who suddenly become ill or injured should tell the nearest staff member or come directly to the office.

Damages to Property

Students damaging school property are responsible for any and all restitution.

Smoking

WSD is a smoke-free environment (buildings and vehicles). Smoking is not allowed under any circumstances in the school.

Clothing

Parents are asked to ensure that their sons/daughters exercise good judgement in selecting attire that is appropriate in a school setting. Also, the wearing of hats/headgear is NOT allowed.

Library:

Students have access to a very large collection of books through our French language and English language libraries (our French library currently has over 10,000 French titles, including video and C.D. Rom titles). Students are taught appropriate library skills, internet usage and procedures.

Homework:

Students can expect to have 1 hour of homework per school day. Having and learning to use an agenda is strongly recommended.  Thank yo to the Parent Council Advisory Group who buys one agenda pers student.
