Daily Timetable

Collège Churchill operates on the six-day cycle. Most courses are scheduled for one full ten month year.

Classes begin at 8:50 a.m. promptly, with announcements being made during the first 2-3 minutes. A lunch period of 1 hour begins at 12:10   p.m., with afternoon classes resuming at 1:10  p.m. All classes dismiss at 3:20 p.m.

Study Periods

Most students will have some unassigned time in their timetables during their high school career. During study periods, a student may choose:

  1. to go to the library
  2. to go to the cafeteria
  3. to get extra help from teachers
  4. to attend extra class
  5. to leave the school

* it is expected that students will not be in the hallways during study periods.

** Grade 7- 9 students are fully timetabled, and therefore do not have to worry about spare time. As much as possible we try to fully timetable S2 students as well.

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential. It can certainly be a factor in a student's academic success.

The Manitoba Department of Education stipulates that 110 hours of instruction be given for all full credit courses (55 for half-credit courses).  All absences are counted, (the exception being those absences brought about by school-sponsored activities). It thus becomes important to try to schedule medical appointments during staff-meeting times as well as teacher in-service and administration days where and when possible. Students are responsible for finding out what they missed while absent, and for ensuring that they complete all assignments. Homework buddies are highly encouraged.

There are four reporting periods during the school year.  However, parents are free to contact the office at any time to inquire about their children's attendance and/or academic progress.

Lates

Students are expected to be on time for their classes, just as they are expected to be on time at a time and place of employment. Lates are sometimes unavoidable due to inclement weather, medical appointments, etc. In those situations, students are asked to come to the office for an admittance slip before proceeding to class.

Promptness benefits all concerned, showing courtesy and respect for self, fellow students and teachers. Recurring and consistent tardiness will be dealt with on an individual basis.

* In order to prevent misunderstandings re absences and tardiness, a note or phone call by parents to our office (474-1305) is appreciated. Should special circumstances arise, communication with the principal and/or directly with the subject teacher(s) becomes critical.

E.g. for a prolonged absence such as a holiday or extended sickness, it is imperative that parents/students communicate with the school a.s.a.p.

Please note that after 20 minutes the student is marked absent but is definitely welcome in class.

Staff Meetings

There will usually be a staff meeting every first Tuesday of the month.  Please consult the school calendar.

Discipline

It is our expectation that students will behave in an appropriate fashhion at all times, again for the benefit of everyone. We expect all students and staff to demonstrate courtesy and respect. Minor in-class situations will be dealt with by the teacher. More serious or recurring situations will be dealt with by the principal. Parents will be advised/consulted. All students will receive copies of the Collège Churchill Code of Conduct and the Winnipeg School Division's Code of Behaviour at the onset of classes.
