Guidelines for Course Selections

A new course coding system for all courses was fully implemented in 1998-99.
General Guideline
Course codes are made up of four descriptive alphabetic characters and two characters identifying the level. The fourth alphabetic character in each code is used as a course designation such as Français (F), Enriched (E), Advanced Placement (P), School Initiated Program (Y), or student initiated (z), etc. The last two characters of each course will identify the level and designation. The levels are the numbers one through four and the designations are those set out by the Department of Education.
Sample Course Codes
These are Math courses, taught en Français, in year 2 or year 3 of the four year high school program in either specialized, modified, or general levels of study.
Where the letter R appears as the fourth character, representing Regular, the course is taught in the English language. e.g. COSR 4S = Computer Science
* N.B. Students who foresee pursuing studies at a post-secondary level will want to ensure appropriate and sufficient courses with S and A level identifiers. Students are encouraged to check with a guidance counsellor and/or directly with the institution itself to ascertain entrance requirements. A more advantageous plan of secondary studies can thus be made.
