In order for Champlain School to be a safe and positive place for your
children to learn and socialize, the following guidelines have been established.
Staff, students, and parents must work together to ensure the effectiveness of
this plan.
WE ENCOURAGE RESPECT AT ALL TIMES
We do this by:
Doing our Job Showing Respect Being Safe

Students may bring a healthy snack for recess — no POP or CANDY.

Strategies
 | Monthly themes & recognition presented at assemblies |
 | In-class programs that develop skills to be used for life, e.g.
Bully-proofing, Second Step, Don’t Laugh at Me, Be Cool. |
Positive Consequences for Appropriate Behaviour
- Teachers will consistently encourage and praise students for their
appropriate behaviour.
- On occasion, teachers may provide whole class rewards or incentives to
encourage and reward a behavioural goal.
- Teachers will inform parents through notes and phone class home, of the
child’s positive behaviour.
- Teachers will inform the principal of students who deserve special
recognition for their efforts and accomplishments.
- Students’ efforts and accomplishments will be recognized at monthly
assemblies.
Range of Consequences for Inappropriate Behaviour
Consequences will be provided on the basis of the
individual needs of the student in social, personal and educational development,
the degree of the problem, and the ability of the student to understand and
handle the consequences. Several minor offences may lead to a major consequence,
however, due to the severity of the behaviour, a major consequence may be used
immediately.
- Teacher/Student conference to clarify expectations and develop
strategies to change behaviour.
- Classroom time-out
- Partner classroom for time-out
- Phone call home (no phone—student taken home and brought back)
- Parent/School Meeting (may involve school counsellor, developing a
behaviour plan)
- Loss of privileges (choice time, outdoor recess, field trip,
extra-curricular)
- In-School suspension
- Out of school suspension (1 to 5 days) parent/guardian must accompany
child upon return to school.
