Warning System

The emergency warning system will be continuous short rings of the fire alarm bell, which will indicate that everyone is to proceed outside and await instructions.

Functions and Responsibilities

Teachers will stay with students in their care. They will carry any student medication if available. Each teacher will carry registers. Children’s attendance will be checked when leaving school and upon arrival at the new destination.

Educational assistants will assist nursery or kindergarten students and carry the first aid kit.

The secretary will carry any medication stored in the office and the home information sheets binder. This information will provide a complete listing of students’ phone numbers and emergency numbers. Teachers will ensure that any medication kept in the classroom is taken out.

Communication Plan: Parents will be informed by telephone if possible. Older children (Grade 5 and 6) may be requested to relay messages informing parents of children’s whereabouts where possible.

If parents collect children enroute to the alternate accommodation, they will be requested to ensure that the teacher is aware that the child will be accompanying his/her parent.

Fire Drills

Ten fire drills are held each year. The practice drills ensure that all children are aware of the procedures to be followed if they hear the fire alarm bell.
